Marussia Confirm Ferrari Deal

While the majority of teams have previously confirmed their 2014 engine suppliers, Marussia have become the latest to declare their partners. The 1.6 litre V6 turbocharged engines will be supplied to the team by Ferrari, as Marussia finally end their contract with Cosworth after they declared that they will not build 2014 engines.
Marussia will receive the entire powertrain from Ferrari in years to come, yet they have not announced the official duration of the contract. The partnership should benefit the team, as the heritage and reliability of Ferrari as a supplier will always be an advantage. In tough economic times, Ferrari are an extremely safe option.
A statement from Marussia's CEO Andy Webb said: "The importance of this development to our team cannot be overstated. Not only will we benefit from a customer supply from the most successful engine manufacturer in Formula One's history, but this also provides further confirmation, if it were needed, of our commitment to the sport and determination to maintain our progression towards our long-term ambitions.
"The new powertrain regulations being introduced next year represent the most substantial engine development within the sport since the introduction of the V8 formula and are all the more significant for the increased contribution of the Energy Recovery System. We look forward to working with Scuderia Ferrari during this exciting new era of Formula One competition."
Cosworth leaving the sport was inevitably going to be a forlorn affair. The supplier has a long history in the sport, dating back to 1984 and has supplied engines to an array of teams including Haas Lola, Jaguar and recently Williams in 2006. Cosworth will be remembered for their success with Benetton, taking Micheal Schumacher to his first title in 1994. The supplier had several spells with Benetton throughout their history and will be remembered in high regard by all personnel.
Andy Webb himself paid tribute to Cosworth in his statement this morning; "We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Cosworth, with whom we have partnered since our debut season in 2010. We have shared an important part of our team's journey together and Cosworth have been an integral part of our clear progression. We will continue to work together during the latter half of the season to ensure we all achieve our combined objectives before Cosworth leave the sport."
